Retail rents in Macau’s are coming under increasing pressure following the closure of satellite casinos, with some landlords reportedly cutting asking prices by 50 to 60 per cent without securing tenants.

According to local property agents, the impact has been most severe in areas further from major casino resorts such as Grand Lisboa and Lisboa Hotel, where the loss of gaming-linked traffic has exposed weaker underlying retail demand.

Local real estate representatives said some larger units have seen rents halved or worse, while smaller spaces have also suffered steep declines as retailers remain cautious about consumer traffic and the area’s recovery prospects.

The pressure is expected to intensify as existing leases expire, with operators and local authorities watching closely to see whether fresh tourism and retail initiatives can stabilise the loss of visitors.
