Delta Corp has filed a Special Leave Petition with the Supreme Court of India challenging a Bombay High Court ruling that dismissed its request for a licence to install electronic amusement games and slot machines at the Deltin Hotel.
In a filing to the stock exchange, the company confirmed it lodged the appeal on 22 July following the High Court’s decision of 29 April, which dismissed Writ Petition No. 317 of 2019.
The original petition sought a direction requiring authorities to grant a licence under Section 13A of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976, allowing gaming operations at the Deltin Hotel.
The Supreme Court proceedings represent the next stage in Delta Corp’s legal challenge after the Bombay High Court declined to grant the relief sought. The outcome will determine whether the company can continue its efforts to obtain a gaming licence for the property.
Delta Corp is India’s largest listed casino operator and holds three of the six offshore casino licences issued in Goa. Its portfolio includes the offshore casinos Deltin Royale and Deltin JAQK, as well as land-based gaming operations and hospitality assets including Deltin Suites in Goa and The Deltin in Daman.
Across its gaming operations, the company offers more than 1,400 gaming positions, including table games and electronic gaming machines.
