IGT and MGM Springfield have launched the first wide-area progressive (WAP) slot games in Massachusetts, introducing a dedicated Wheel of Fortune Slots Zone featuring 20 games from IGT’s portfolio.
Wide-area progressive games operate across a network of connected slot machines, with a shared jackpot pool that increases as players wager. The new installation at MGM Springfield offers progressive jackpot reset values ranging from $200,000 to $1.125m.
The Wheel of Fortune Slots Zone features a combination of established and recently launched titles across several IGT cabinets. These include Wheel of Fortune Big Money on the Wheel of Fortune Trio cabinet, Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Reels Double Diamond and Double Gold on the DiamondRS Wheel cabinet, Triple Gold Gold Spin on the MegaTower cabinet, and Triple Stars Gold Spin Deluxe on the CrystalWheel Stepper cabinet.
Ariam Aponte, MGM Springfield Vice President of Casino Operations, said: “MGM Springfield is excited to continue our tradition of ‘firsts,’ by becoming the first casino in Massachusetts to offer players the chance to win life-changing jackpots on IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slots games. Our recently opened Wheel of Fortune Zone differentiates MGM Springfield, features an exciting mix of slots experiences and offers jackpot opportunities that are new to players in Massachusetts.”
The launch coincides with the 30th anniversary of IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slots franchise, which debuted in 1996. According to IGT, the franchise has awarded more than $3.6bn in jackpots and created over 1,200 millionaires across more than 300 game variations.
Hector Fernandez, IGT CEO, commented: “Launching the first wide-area progressive games in Massachusetts with MGM Springfield gives players a new way to experience Wheel of Fortune Slots as we mark its 30th anniversary. IGT helped shape the WAP category through decades of innovation, and this launch builds on that legacy while creating new opportunities for our customers and their players.”
IGT holds an exclusive licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Television to develop Wheel of Fortune slot games through 2034.
