New, ultra-modern venue offers 100 slots, 34 electronic tables as well as live tables

French operator Partouche completed an extraordinary move for the Casino de Cabourg, transferring its entire suite of gaming equipment in a single night without any interruption to the casino’s activity.

On April 29, 75 slot machines were relocated from the old venue in the Italian-style theatre on the Promenade Marcel-Proust, which was transformed into a gaming hall in 1908, into an ultra-modern complex located at the entrance to the Normandy seaside town. Over 50 members of staff ensured the gaming equipment was reinstalled at the new venue. In France, the movement of slot machines is supervised by the Ministry of the Interior, with each machine subject to rigorous traceability and meticulous inspection.

The relocation marks the end of 120 years of operation in this emblematic place of Cabourg, the Belle Époque. The new venue took two years to build, with Partouche hoping that by moving away from the touristy promenade of the seaside, it would be able to target a new demographic of player rather than just passing trade, and attract more than 30 million visitors per year.

The move was backed by the local municipality, which owns the building in which the casino is housed and invested €10m in its construction.

Mayor of the municipality, Emmanuel Porcq, said: “Faced with an investment of about €10m, we will have much higher gains since we will go from a fee that was €150,000 here to €620,000 on the new casino and a tax on gaming revenue that goes from 10 per cent of the fee to 15 per cent. This is a strategic issue for the municipal budget.”

The Casino de Cabourg now houses 100 slot machines, as well as an area with 34 electronic gaming stations and traditional gaming tables.

The new casino, with a surface area of 2,700 m², is located on an 11,000 m² plot of land, next to the aquatic centre, alongside other sports and leisure facilities, ranging from the Garden Tennis Club to go-karting.

The new venue offers more parking spaces and larger gaming areas to accommodate more machines.
