SJM becomes first Macau operator to join Global Sustainable Tourism Council
SJM Resorts has become the first Macau gaming operator to join the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, strengthening its focus on sustainable tourism and responsible destination development.
SJM Resorts has joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), becoming the first Macau-based integrated resort operator to become a member of the international sustainable tourism organisation.
The GSTC establishes global standards for sustainable travel and tourism and works with destinations, governments and businesses to promote environmentally and socially responsible tourism practices.
SJM said its membership reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development and aligns with its broader strategy to support Macau’s evolution as a diversified international tourism destination.
The operator added that participation in the GSTC will provide access to global best practices and support the continued development of sustainability initiatives across its hospitality, tourism and MICE operations.
SJM operates a portfolio of gaming and hospitality assets in Macau, including Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau and Grand Lisboa Macau.
The move comes as Macau’s concessionaires continue to expand investment in non-gaming activities under the city’s current concession framework, with sustainability, cultural tourism, conventions and international visitor development becoming increasingly important components of long-term growth strategies.
As the first Macau operator to join the GSTC, SJM is positioning itself at the forefront of the city’s efforts to align its tourism sector with internationally recognised sustainability standards while supporting broader diversification objectives.
