Macau Slot’s sports betting concession renewed for one year

Macau’s government has renewed the sports betting and instant lottery concession held by Macau Slot Co. Ltd. for a further year, extending the licence until June 5, 2027. The new concession took effect on June 6, 2026 following the expiry of the previous agreement. Macau Slot remains the only operator authorised to offer football and basketball betting and instant lottery products in the territory.

Although the concession has been granted on a non-exclusive basis since 2021, no competing operators have entered the market, leaving Macau Slot as the sole provider of these services.

As part of the renewal, the government reiterated requirements for the company to prioritise the recruitment of local residents and support workforce localisation initiatives. The revised agreement emphasises cooperation with government employment policies and on-the-job training programmes for local workers. The renewal comes as betting activity is expected to increase with the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Macau Slot reported a profit of MOP130m in 2024, representing growth of 5.5 per cent year-on-year. Financial results for 2025 have not yet been released.
