Mendoza has closed the traditional gaming area at its central casino in Godoy Cruz, ending roulette, blackjack and poker-table operations as the province restructures its gambling regulator amid a broader shift towards regulated online betting.
The traditional gaming section at the Casino de Mendoza’s central venue, on Avenida San Martín in Godoy Cruz, closed effective 5 August. Slot machines remain in operation. The measure affects 81 employees, who may opt for voluntary retirement, relocation within the public administration or a six-month availability period on pay.
The closure forms part of a wider reorganisation of the Instituto Provincial de Juegos y Casinos (IPJyC), Mendoza’s gambling regulator.
Provincial Law 9,718, which entered into force on 23 July 2026, gives the institute one year to modify its organisational structure, functions and positions in pursuit of financial balance and longer-term sustainability.
Reports and government statements indicate that the restructuring responds to both declining demand for traditional “live” gaming and broader changes in gambling habits. The financial pressure was also intensified by the 11 March 2026 fire at the Tótem Boulevard complex in San Martín, which destroyed the Casino de Mendoza’s Zona Este annex and interrupted its operations.
Mendoza established its regulated online-gaming framework under Provincial Law 9,267, with implementing rules set out in IPJyC Resolution 554/22.
The regulator awarded five online licences in its first public tender in April 2023, initially covering Super7, RushBet, Bplay, Codere and BetWarrior. RushBet’s authorisation was subsequently transferred to Betano.mendoza.
The province expanded the market through a second public tender in February 2025, awarding the remaining two licences permitted under Law 9,267. KLP Emprendimientos S.A., in a joint venture with Casino Club S.A., was authorised to operate Casino Club Online, while a joint venture involving Argenbingo S.A., Operalogist S.A. and Nuevo Plaza Hotel Mendoza received the licence for Sportsbet. Both successful bidders offered a 10% revenue share, or canon, to the IPJyC.
In April the governor of the province of Mendoza Alfredo Cornejo told sector workers that online gambling was gaining ground over physical casinos, warning that gaming hall employees “should be concerned about the overall situation,” given shifting player preferences.
