The Merkur sun will be displayed in the Heinz von Heiden Arena on LED boards as well as on the club’s digital channels
The Merkur Group has become an official sponsor of Hannover 96, one of the most famous football clubs in Germany, with a two-year deal that will see the Merkur sun displayed in the Heinz von Heiden Arena on LED boards and carpets as well as on the digital channels of the club.
Since the takeover of the ten casinos in Lower Saxony on July 1, 2025, the Merkur Group has been even more closely connected to the state, where numerous gambling halls and sports betting shops are already operated.
David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Casinos at Merkur.com, said: “Hannover 96 has a charisma that goes far beyond the borders of Lower Saxony. We are proud to be part of this big football family in the future and a partner of a club that moves so many people. This cooperation is an important step for us to further expand our commitment in Lower Saxony.”

With more than 25,000 members, Hannover 96 is one of the largest football clubs in northern Germany. The historic club from the capital of Lower Saxony recently celebrated its 130th anniversary and is still firmly rooted in the region today. Among the greatest successes in the club’s history are the German championships in 1938 and 1954 and winning the DFB Cup in 1992 as the first second division team ever.
